How to Choose a Floor Transition Profile

The junction between two floor finishes deserves the same attention as the flooring itself. A transition profile can define the edge and create a clear connection between materials. The right selection depends on the actual floor build-up, not just the visible colour.

Measure the finished floor levels

Measure both finished surfaces, including adhesive, underlay and other layers. Establish whether the junction is level or has a height difference. Review the profile section against those dimensions; confirm compatibility with the installer before ordering.

Match the profile to the junction

Consider how carpet, tile, timber or other coverings meet. Check the edge support, the available fixing space and the expected traffic. A sample positioned at the actual junction makes the width and finish easier to judge than a photograph alone.

Keep movement requirements in the design

Discuss the movement allowance required by the selected flooring system. A decorative cover is not automatically a movement joint. Structural and flooring movement joints require an appropriate detail; do not assume that a general transition strip can replace them.

Coordinate installation and maintenance

Confirm whether the chosen profile is installed before, during or after the floor covering. Review fixing instructions and cleaning guidance for the finish. Explore MOX flooring profiles and send our team the floor materials, measured levels and a drawing of the junction to discuss a suitable option.
